Can earthquakes trigger volcanic eruptions?
The short answer is yes, earthquakes and volcanic processes are closely linked, as suggested by the existence of the “ring of fire” of active volcanoes and earthquakes circling the Pacific Ocean. A volcanic eruption occurs when the force of the magma plumbing system exceeds the force holding the rock together between the magma chamber and the surface. For earthquakes that are relatively close to an active volcano, the displacement of the earthquake itself can change the stresses around the magma chamber, possibly bringing the volcano closer to an eruption. When looking at whether eruptions are triggered by earthquakes, it seems clear that both large local earthquakes and large distant earthquakes can bring a volcano closer to eruption. If a volcano is already poised to erupt, the changing stress patterns may result in an eruption. More commonly, large earthquakes simply goose the magma plumbing system, producing earthquake swarms or changing the behavior of the magma plumbing system, but not triggering an eruption. New evidence showing that very large earthquakes can trigger an increase in activity at nearby volcanoes has been uncovered by Oxford University scientists. An analysis of records in southern Chile has shown that up to four times as many volcanic eruptions occur during the year following very large earthquakes than in other years. This ‘volcanic surge’ can affect volcanoes up to at least 500 km away from an earthquake’s epicentre. The evidence suggests that seismic waves, radiating from the earthquake rupture, may trigger an eruption by stirring or shaking the molten rock beneath volcanoes. The disturbances that result from this lead to eruption but, because of the time it takes for pressure to build up inside a volcano and for magma to move towards the surface, an eruption may not occur until some months after the earthquake. Dabbahu Volcano is located in the remote Afar Region of Ethiopia in Eastern Africa. Dabbahu eruption in September 2005 created a a 500 meter long fissure in the ground, called the Dabbahu fissure. The volcano is the hottest place on Earth’s surface. Leading to Dabbahu’s only known eruption in recorded history, the ground swelled as a cluster of more than 130 tremors shook the area near the volcano. In 2009, scientists said that volcanic activity may split the African continent in two owing to a recent geological crack in northeastern Ethiopia. Read more HERE.
Recently in 2011, British geologists reported that they discovered a giant underground reservoir of molten rock. They targeted the Afar region in the Horn of Africa after a recent surge in volcanic activity and earthquakes plus the appearance of giant cracks in the rocky surface. Tectonic plates in the area are pulling apart and gradually creating a new ocean. The scientists have mapped the colossal underground lake of magma that lies up to 20 miles (32km) below the earth’s surface. “We estimate that there is 3,000 cubic kilometers of molten rock under Afar — enough to cover all of London with around a kilometer of rock,” said Kathy Whaler, professor of geophysics at Edinburgh University. The reservoir is under such pressure that it has forced tongues of molten rock up towards the surface, producing eruptions and earthquakes. Read more HERE.
END TIMES TRUTH
The earth’s interior is going to begin a cycle of upward bursts of molten rock, and many of the fissures are just beneath metropolitan areas. Earthquakes are even occurring where no fault lines previously existed. Looks like the burning hell everyone thought existed after death is going to be here in the here-and now. Those that perished at the great flood drowned, but this time, it is going to be a burn off for those left behind. After the nations are crushed, Yahweh is going to make certain nothing and no one survives. Christ is the only Hope out of this world destined for destruction by Yahweh.
