(May 16) Fourteen families were stranded Tuesday after the only bridge leading into their neighborhood in Wirtz, Franklin County, Virginia, was washed out by flash flooding late Monday night. Residents described hearing a rumble, similar to a freight train, but did not discover until later that it was the road washing away. (Source)

(May 16) The Utah Department of Transportation closed a portion of Washington Boulevard in Ogden for the next two days because of a sinkhole. (Source)

(May 15) A sinkhole that measures 20 feet deep and between 8 to 12 feet wide opened up on Hammonton Smartsville Road near Beale Air Force Base in Yuba County, California. (Source)

(May 13) The ground cracked in the middle of the night, sending terrifying people out of the house to find massive fissures opening up in Nakhon Si housing settlement in Thailand. (Source)

(May 13) A 25 foot by 15 foot sinkhole developed on a normally-busy street in La Puente in Los Angeles, California, as a result of a damaged water main. (Source)

(May 12) A large sink hole near 11958 SW 5 Ave.in the Jonesville area in Alachua County, Florida, has forced people in the immediate area to evacuate. The sinkhole — about 80 feet long and 40 feet wide and growing — was discovered about 8 a.m. Saturday, though the initial cave-in likely happened late Friday night. A 24-foot-long storage shed was on the verge of toppling into it, and the ground showed signs of giving way close to the swimming pool. (Source)

(May 3) A sinkhole nearly swallowed a car this morning near an office complex in Cottonwood Heights in Utah, exposing a 2-inch natural gas pipeline. If that car had driven into that hole, it could have been a huge, potentially fatal, mess. (Source)
